Once a familiar ship on the New York cruise scene, Holland America's ex Rotterdam V, sailed many years on transatlantic, Bermuda and Bahamas cruises from New York.

After passing through multiple buyers, including sailing for Premier Cruises as the Rembrandt, she was sold to Dutch interests who converted the ship into a stationary attraction. Her current owners, spent over 240 Million Euros on her renovations, removing asbestos and restoring the liner to it's original grandeur.  Unfortnately delays in the upgrades combined with lower than anticipated public attendance and utlization, left her current owners in financial trouble.

Faced with mounting debt, reports out of Holland indicate that the S/S Rotterdam from 1959 may be sold soon. Report indicate that interested parties in Oman are serious about purchasing the ship and moving her to Oman as a hotel for VIPs.

Although there are other offers for the liner, the offer from Oman appears to be reasonable and fair.
